Pre-Apprenticeship Programs

Apprenticeship Programs

Apprenticeships are highly regarded for their structured approach to career development, integrating real-world experience with formal education.

Key aspects of apprenticeships include:

  • On-the-Job Training: Apprenticeships provide invaluable hands-on experience under the guidance of seasoned professionals. This practical training allows apprentices to develop skills directly applicable to their chosen industry or trade.

  • Related Academic Instruction: In addition to practical training, apprentices will participate in structured academic coursework. This component enhances their understanding of the theoretical aspects of their field, ensuring they grasp both the how and why behind their work.

  • Earn a Salary: Unlike unpaid internships, apprenticeships are paid positions. Apprentices receive compensation for their work, which not only supports them financially but also acknowledges their contributions to the employer's operations.

By combining these elements, apprenticeships offer a comprehensive learning experience that prepares individuals for long-term career success. Apprentices will earn state certifications through the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards. Additionally, they may receive further recognition through Certificates of Achievement and Skills Attainment Certificates from Columbia College.

This dual emphasis on practical skills and academic knowledge equips apprentices with the tools needed for career advancement and potentially further education. It's a structured pathway that supports professional growth while meeting the immediate needs of industries for skilled workers.
